Evolysse™

Smile lines and folds around the nose and mouth often become more noticeable with age, and can also appear after weight loss causes changes to the volume and structure of the face. Evolysse™ is an injectable hyaluronic acid filler designed to smooth these lines while preserving natural movement and expression.

At Coastal Medical Aesthetics in San Diego, CA, our providers use Evolysse™ to restore a smoother, more balanced appearance without an artificial or overfilled look. The treatment is precise, efficient, and tailored to the individual anatomy of each patient.

What Is Evolysse™?

Evolysse™ is a hyaluronic acid (HA) filler made using Cold-X™ Technology, a manufacturing process that relies on cold temperatures rather than heat. Because heat can alter the natural structure of hyaluronic acid, this cold-processed approach is designed to keep the HA closer to its original form, for results that move and feel more like the skin’s own tissue. Evolysse™ is available in two formulations, Evolysse™ Smooth and Evolysse™ Form, both used to address dynamic wrinkles and folds, particularly nasolabial folds, the lines that run from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

“I had such a great experience with my treatment! Teresa was super gentle and took her time to really make it look natural and balanced. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for beautiful, natural-looking results.”

Who Is A Candidate For Evolysse™?

Evolysse™ is approved for adults 22 and older who are bothered by smile lines or nasolabial folds, whether those lines showed up gradually with age or became more pronounced after a weight change. These folds form as the skin loses collagen and the underlying facial fat shifts, a process that can speed up when rapid weight loss changes the face’s volume and support. Patients on a weight-loss journey, including those using GLP-1 medications, often notice these new folds and hollows, and Evolysse™ is formulated with that specific concern in mind. It’s also a good option for anyone who simply wants their smile lines to look softer without looking altered, since the treatment is designed to smooth the fold both at rest and while the face is in motion.

Good candidates are in overall good health and do not have a history of severe allergic reactions, particularly to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins, both of which are used in the product. Evolysse™ isn’t recommended for anyone pregnant or breastfeeding, who has an active skin infection or breakout in the treatment area, or who has a history of significant scarring or pigmentation changes. Patients with a history of cold sores should also mention this beforehand, since injections near the mouth can sometimes trigger a flare-up.

During your consultation, your provider will evaluate the depth of your folds and the amount of correction needed to determine which formulation is the better starting point: Evolysse™ Smooth for finer, more superficial lines, or Evolysse™ Form for deeper folds that need more structural support. We’ll also review your full health history and current medications to confirm Evolysse™ is the right choice for your goals.

The Evolysse™ Treatment

Before your appointment, let your provider know about any blood thinners, aspirin, or anti-inflammatory medications you’re taking, since these can increase the likelihood of bruising. It’s also worth mentioning any history of cold sores, allergies, or upcoming procedures like laser treatments or chemical peels, as timing around Evolysse™ matters for both.

When you arrive, your provider will examine the treatment area and confirm which formulation, Evolysse™ Smooth or Evolysse™ Form, best suits your goals and the depth of your folds. The two are built for different depths of correction: Evolysse™ Smooth is designed to achieve results with less product, making it well-suited to lighter, more superficial folds, while Evolysse™ Form is designed for deeper folds that need more volume and structural support. Both products contain lidocaine, so most patients find the injections comfortable without additional numbing, though a topical numbing cream is available if needed.

Using a fine needle, your provider injects the filler beneath the skin along the nasolabial folds, shaping the product to smooth the area both when your face is relaxed and when you’re smiling. Your provider will check the treatment area from multiple angles throughout, comparing both sides of your face to keep the results balanced and natural.

Most Evolysse™ appointments take about 20-30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being treated. There’s no sedation involved, and most patients return to normal activities the same day.

Evolysse™ Recovery and Results

Results with Evolysse™ are visible right away, since the filler adds volume to the treatment area as soon as it’s injected. Any initial swelling will settle over the following days, revealing the final, smoothed-out results underneath.

Mild swelling, tenderness, bruising, redness, or small lumps at the injection sites are the most common side effects. These are usually temporary and resolve within about a week. Avoiding extreme heat or cold on the treated area, along with skipping strenuous exercise for the rest of the day, can help keep swelling to a minimum.

Because Evolysse™ is designed to move naturally with the face, results tend to look consistent whether you’re smiling, talking, or at rest. In clinical studies, both formulations showed results lasting for up to a year in most patients with optimal treatment, though your individual timeline will depend on the formulation used and your own metabolism. Once the HA gradually breaks down, a touch-up appointment is recommended to maintain your results.

Smoothing smile lines doesn’t have to come at the cost of natural movement and expression. Evolysse™ is formulated to soften those folds while preserving the way your face moves when you smile, speak, or laugh, so results still look and feel like you. Its cold-processed hyaluronic acid integrates smoothly with your skin’s own tissue, avoiding the stiff or overfilled look that can come with less refined fillers.

At Coastal Medical Aesthetics in San Diego, California, care doesn’t stop at your first appointment; we’ll check in as your results settle and help you plan for your next touch-up. Schedule a consultation today to see what Evolysse™ can do for your smile.
