What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a dermal filler used to address fine lines and severe wrinkles. Sculptra is a gel substance made from poly-L-lactic acid. This filler can volumize the face or add volume to the areas with wrinkles, making the skin appear smooth and texture-free. Poly-L-lactic acid is designed to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen. This product is absorbed into the body only days after your initial treatment to push the cells to produce higher levels of collagen. This is helpful because as you get older, your collagen levels drop, affecting the appearance of your skin. Collagen is a natural protein that adds overall strength and support to the skin.

Who is a Candidate for Sculptra?

Candidates for Sculptra treatment include individuals desiring a reduction in the number of deep wrinkles they have. This treatment can also help recessed skin areas, and folds from fat loss, and can plump or smooth body contours. Common areas for Sculptra injection include the buttocks and hips. The best way to determine if you are an ideal candidate for Sculptra is through a consultation with an injector specialist at Coastal Medical Aesthetics.

The Sculptra Treatment

Your procedure will begin with your injector specialist cleansing the treatment area where you will receive the injection. A topical anesthetic may then be applied to the area to minimize any possible discomfort from the injection. Afterward, the dermal filler will be injected into multiple sites underneath the surface of the skin to volumize your treatment area. At this time, you may feel slight pressure against the skin, however, no pain should be present.

Sculptra Recovery and Results

Once your Sculptra injection is completed, your injector specialist will release you from the office where you can then enjoy the rest of your daily activities. You must avoid any strenuous physical activities for the next 72 hours. Temporary side effects may include bruising, skin discoloration, pain, itchiness, bumps, and swelling. Any discomfort and soreness that you experience can be managed with over-the-counter NSAIDs under your doctor’s supervision. The amount of time that you require to heal is quicker than other aesthetic treatments. It can take up to one month for your results to begin to settle in. After this time, you can enjoy the long-lasting volumizing and smoothing effects of Sculptra. Sculptra is well known for its long-lasting effects, lasting up to two years.
